New Orleans, LA- The long road to justice finally has an end for a New Orleans family who lost a loved one in a drunken driving accident in 2016. After months of delays and continuances, the New Orleans-area businessman accused being drunk when he sped through the Garden District and crashed into a wall, killing a 23-year-old woman, will finally have his day in court.

Lamborghini Driver Who Caused Fatal DWI Crash Will Go to Trial

New Orleans Parrish prosecutors and the attorneys representing Jason Adams were unable to reach a plea deal which means the case will now go to trial. Nola.com reports that beginning date is February 6, 2018. Adams, 31, is facing one charge of vehicular homicide for causing a drunken driving crash that killed a 23-year old bartender at a restaurant he frequented.

Prosecutors allege that Adams was drunk on May 4, 2016, when he and the victim went for a ride in his 2015 Lamborghini. Adams was traveling about 118 mph in the Lower Garden District on Tchoupitoulas Street when he lost control of his sports car while trying to navigate a curve and slammed into a flood wall.

His female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Adams injured his leg.

According to NOLA.com, a blood test revealed that his BAC was 0.11 percent after the crash, but Assistant District Attorney Victoria Cvtanovic noted in the arrest warrant that his BAC could have been as high as 0.20 percent when he crashed.

If convicted, Adams faces between five and fifteen years in jail.

Drunken driving crashes transform many lives in New Orleans and Louisiana. Fortunately, there were fewer alcohol-related fatalities in the state in 2016 than the previous year. In 2015, there were 250 alcohol-related fatalities in the state of Louisiana, and in 2016 that number dropped to 25, according to the NHTSA. That contrasts with most states where drunken driving accidents are increasing.
