16-Year-Old Charged with Two Drunken Driving Deaths in Modesto
Police charged a 16-year-old from Modesto with multiple felony counts after she caused a drunken driving crash in late November that killed a mother and daughter.
On Wednesday, November 27, 2017, the accused was traveling in a Mercedes at a high rate of speed when she T-boned an SUV. According to the Modesto Bee, the SUV was making a left turn off Tully Road onto Rumble road when the Mercedes slammed into the passenger side.
Police told the Modesto Bee that the SUV came to rest 168 feet from where the impact occurred and came to rest on the roof, just steps away from a house. Both occupants were trapped for some time as emergency responders worked to free them.
The passenger in the SUV, the driver’s mother, was pronounced dead at the scene.The daughter suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital where she later died, according to CBS Sacramento.
The Mercedes driver and its two occupants, her 14-year-old brother, and a 16-year-old boy, were also injured but those injuries were not life-threatening.
The Modesto Bee reports that as soon as the hospital cleared the 16-year-old for medical release, she was arrested on multiple charges including speeding, DUI, and two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter.
