Luis E. Torres, 37, has been indicted for causing a drunk driving accident in which a pregnant woman, his mother in law, and step daughter were all killed. Torres was driving a Ford Explorer that flipped over when he lost control, causing the deaths. Additionally, Torres and five of his passengers were injured in the accident.
He has been indicted on three counts of second-degree vehicular homicide, three counts of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, one count of third-degree assault by auto, one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, five counts of fourth-degree assault by auto, reckless driving, and driving while intoxicated.
Torres is a Selfish Fool
After the accident Torres said that he had been drinking beer all day and probably had a blood alcohol count that was twice the legal limit. His sister in law said that the family was behind him and would support him.
When a person is charged with causing a drunk driving accident, they need to immediately retain the services of a drunk driving accident lawyer before they make any statements to the police. This will help the person fight the court case and maybe obtain a lower penalty.
Drunk driving accident attorneys will be able to defend the person charged with a DUI crime by assessing the evidence presented by the prosecution and ensuring that only acceptable evidence is presented to the jury. Moreover, they can help reduce the penalty by negotiating with the prosecution.
The sad thing about this case is that Torres committed this act and did not think about the safety of his own family but the poignant aspect of this is that he did this to his own family. He did not cause any other harm to other peoples’ families.
No Insurance Claim in this Case
Apart from the criminal penalty, a drunk driving accident can lead to other charges as well. All the people injured in the accident are entitled to financial compensation from the insurance company of the at fault driver. This means that the drunk driving accident lawyers might need to participate in negotiations with the insurance company as well.
