It Seems That Even Cops Drive Drunk in Florida

These days, it seems as though intoxicated driving has become a serious problem in the State of Florida. In fact, even police officers are now driving drunk — inside patrol cars. Of course, this is just one of many DUIs that occurred in Florida within the past few weeks, and there are many other examples of equally insane and shocking acts of intoxicated misconduct. If you have been injured by a drunk driver in Florida, you already know how much of a threat these individuals pose to the general public. But what can you do about it?

Florida Police Officer Caught Drunk in Patrol Car

On November 21st, it was reported that a Florida police officer was facing numerous charges for driving under the influence in a marked police cruiser. The officer was off-duty at the time, but that didn’t stop him from being charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, and leaving the scene of a crash with an unattended vehicle. The officer was also suspended — but with pay. The exact details surrounding this incident are extremely scarce, and the official police report was slow to be released.

Federal Prosecutor Insults Officers After DUI

In another example of an “authority figure” being charged with a DUI, a federal prosecutor told police “f–k you” when he was stopped while driving home drunk from a bar. Not only was the man intoxicated, but he was driving with a suspended license. The prosecutor then proceeded to use his position as an authority figure to escape consequences. When the police stuck to their guns and followed through with the arrest, the prosecutor became angry and swore at them.

Other Notable DUIs in Florida

Of course, it’s not always police officers and federal prosecutors committing DUIs. In fact, it’s much more common for average citizens to commit these offenses, and police officers are often subjected to all kinds of abuse from drunk drivers who are caught behind the wheel.

On November 18th, it was reported that a drunk driver had been arrested after threatening officers and spitting at them. She was clearly intoxicated and had a marijuana cigarette in her car. After briefly trying to escape, the individual was charged with DUI, assaulting a police officer, threatening a police officer, marijuana possession, and resisting arrest.

In another notable DUI case, a man crashed his car, left the scene of the accident, and went to buy whiskey shots before returning to the scene. Meanwhile, a victim suffered from minor injuries. The man admitted he was an alcoholic.
