Cobb County Man Stops Drunk Driver

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, Enoch pulled into his neighborhood when he noticed a vehicle tearing through it. The Cobb County man said the driver lost control in a curve and ran off the road, driving wildly across several lawns including Enoch’s, barely missing a house. The driver then crashed into a tree and attempted to flee on foot.

Enoch’s instincts kicked in, and he ran towards the drunken driver, tackling him to the ground. He detained the man, who he suspected of being drunk and on drugs until police arrived, WSB-TV reports.

Enoch, who is an employee for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office and a former deputy sheriff in Ohio, told WSB- TV that the alleged drunk driver was going between 50 and 60 mph when he hit a curve and lost control.

Because of Enoch’s swift action, a dangerous driver was taken off the road, and the potential tragedy of a fatal or injurious drunken driving accident was averted.

Drunken Driving in Georgia

Drunk driving is a problem in many states across the U.S. and Georgia is not an exception. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), 26 percent of fatal accidents in 2015 were caused by alcohol-impaired drivers.

Cobb County and other areas in and around the metropolitan Atlanta area see a significant share of the state’s yearly drunken driving accidents, the GOHS says. That is due to the prevalence of bars and restaurants in urban areas.

Drunken driving accidents are the most common between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 4 a.m., which corresponds with the time that most establishments that serve alcohol close, the GOHS reports.
